Dead-Beef Friday: Basic Instincts |

I often get a little stressed about posting Dead-Beef comics. Most of my concerns amount to “god we were so juveniel,” which is probably dumb considering the content of our current comic. But Dead-Beef, like Inglorious Hipsters, has a lot of loosely connected comics, which creates a second concern that a lot of these comics don’t make a ton of sense if you haven’t read previous installments. Considering our small audience my worries probably aren’t really warranted, but as a creator you always want your work to be understood, even if it’s just a bunch of dick jokes you wrote 10 years ago.
Speaking of being a creator, the Yeggies wrapped up their nomination period yesterday with over 200 nodes for an Edmonton new media award. I must admit, when I first heard about the Yeggies my initial reaction was a cynical one. Who cares about a bunch of asshats in Edmonton with Tumblr or WordPress accounts posting pictures of their food and/or cats?
To be fair, being cynical is my default reaction to everything. Once I thought about it I realized that there are a lot of people in our city doing really cool things. Edmontonians are podcasting, blogging about social issues and comics, or providing a genuine news service. So hats off to Adam Rozenhart and company for spear-heading an effort to recognized new media talent in Edmonton.
That’s all I’ve got for you today, see you Monday!

Thanks for the shout out Gregg!
Anytime!
Thanks for the kind words about the Yeggies, Gregg!
