Two weeks into summer blockbuster season and already we’re blessed with two very good movies. Iron Man 3 was another solid entry in the Marvel movie universe and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness hits all the right marks. Well, most of the right marks, “all” is a bit generous.

Star Trek Into Darkness, while a very good and very fun movie, still suffers from the same problems as it’s predecessor: it does not carry the Star Trek “soul”. For those who aren’t diehard Star Trek fans this won’t be a problem and perhaps more of a plus. But for those of us who cling tightly to Gene Roddenberry’s utopian spirit there will always be something off about the Star Trek remakes.

Having said that, the villain is handled exceptionally well (which is often a problem in most Star Trek films) and the film actually takes a few moments to breath rather than assaulting us with endless, high tension action scenes.

Definitely go see it, whether you’re a Trekkie or not, I guarantee you’ll have a good time.

Just a quick heads up, it’s a long weekend so next week’s Inglorious Hipsters comic will be out Tuesday instead of Monday. With that, here’s your Friday installment of Dead-Beef. Have a great long weekend everyone!
